Clean It Up, Clear It Out

Spring is all about renewal, and there’s no better way to renew your living space than with a little spring cleaning.

Experts suggest that, rather than trying to tackle every room of the whole house at once, you break it down into smaller tasks.  This way you won’t feel overwhelmed and give up on the chore altogether.

You can also skip areas that are cleaned regularly or that you’ve cleaned recently.  This will open up time to focus on areas you’ve left untouched for a while or high-traffic areas that get dirty faster.  Those untouched areas you shouldn’t forget include the nooksand crannies around the house like vents, windowsills and door frames, as well as behind the big items like the toilet, your sofa and your bed.

One of the biggest reasons for spring cleaning is to rid yourself and your house of clutter. And there are lots of ways to get rid of those pieces of clothing, furniture ortchotchkes you don’t need:

  • If the items are in poor condition, simply throw them out.  They won’t be of any use to anyone.
  • Need a little extra cash and have items in good shape? Plan a garage sale orfind a consignment store to work with.
  • More charity-minded?  There are lots of local agencies like Goodwill, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, the Salvation Army and others that allow you to donate well-kept items that are just taking up space.  These donations are also tax deductible.
